Stony Brook once trailed, 6-1, with 7:53 to play, but went on a 12-1 scoring run to overcome the deficit and earned its first win over the Retrievers since 2019.

Graduate attack Kevin Mack had a career-day as he helped the Seawolves improve to 9-4, 4-1 America East on the season. Mack exploded for a career-high nine points as he rattled the cage a career-high six times and dished out three assists. Mack's nine points and six goals were the most by a Stony Brook student-athlete this season.

After falling behind 6-1 midway through the second quarter, the Seawolves stormed back and erupted for 12 goals to go up, 13-7, with 9:46 to play in the game. UMBC tacked on four goals down the stretch, but the Stony Brook was able to hold on and win by the final score of 13-11.

Sophomore attack Noah Armitage finished right behind Mack on the scoresheet as he registered his fourth-career hat trick. Armitage's first goal was a man-up score to tie the game up at 6-6 with 14:24 to play in the third quarter. Mack and sophomore attack Dylan Pallonetti added back-to-back goals to give Stony Brook an 8-6 lead with 8:56 to go in the third quarter.

Following the Retrievers' seventh goal, Stony Brook went on another scoring run as it outscored UMBC, 5-0, to go up 13-7. The Seawolves' defense locked in down the stretch as it only allowed five goals over the final 30 minutes.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"When it was 6-1 we had a choice to make on what we are all about as a team and a program. Culture is not about when it's sunny and 70. You see your culture when you get punched in the face and had a choice to make. We challenged them and they responded with a 12-1 run. We couldn't be more excited for the toughness and togetherness we displayed. Kevin and Austin stepped up. Defense played great and Jamo was really good in the cage and in the clearing game," said head coach Anthony Gilardi.
