HS baseball and softball roundup: Cazenovia baseball blanks Phoenix behind Jack Byrnes gem - syracuse.com

The Cazenovia baseball team has been rolling over opponents during their current eight-game winning streak, and thanks to a masterful performance on the mound by Jack Byrnes, they did it again on Monday, shutting out Phoenix, 6-0.

The sophomore hurler tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout, striking out 14 and issuing no walks to help the Lakers improve their record to 9-1. Cazenovia has outscored their opponents 87-13 during the winning streak.

On offense, Taven Reilley led the Lakers by going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, and AJ Rothfeld went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. In the loss, Ty Corey finished 2-for-3 with a double.

Cazenovia will look to make it nine straight when it faces Jordan-Elbridge at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wet Genesee, 11, Liverpool 0

Eric Korzeniewski and Wyatt Braun combined on a two-hitter as the Wildcats blanked Liverpool.

Korzeniewski pitched six inning and struck out ten batters and Braun came in and threw one inning with one strike out.

Jacob DePalma Luis Suarez each drove in three runs and had a double for West Genesee (6-4).

Auburn 13, Jamesville-DeWitt 2

Ryan Birchard put on a show during the Maroons’ victory, finishing 4-for-4 with a home run, one walk, a stolen base and seven RBIs. Also stepping up for Auburn on offense was Ryan Stewart, who went 3-for-4 with one walk, two steals, four runs scored and three RBIs.

Birchard and Stewart combined to go 7-for-8 with a pair of walks, three steals, five runs scored and 10 RBIs. The rest of the team registered just three hits but scored five of the Maroons’ runs.

Whitesboro 4, Rome Free Academy 1

The Warriors won their fifth straight, thanks in large part to a strong effort on the mound from Colin Skermont. The junior went five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits and two walks against nine strikeouts.

The Whitesboro offense was paced by Bryce Collis (2-for-3, double, RBI), Ryan Cook (1-for-2, double, two runs) and Jacob Scalise (1-for-3, two runs).

In the loss, the Black Knights got a pair of hits from both Jack Anderegg and Evan Delutis.

Christian Brothers Academy 4, Westhill 1

The Brothers improved to 9-3 on the strength of five combined hits between Matthew Boule and Mike Schaefer. Boule went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Schaefer was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Schaefer also pitched two scoreless, hitless innings. He allowed one walk and struck out three.

Softball

Marcellus 12, Westhill 1

Emma MacLachlan bashed a pair of home runs and drove in six runs in the Mustangs win. Aubrey Fraher (2-for-4, home run, three runs scored, two RBIs) and Elaine Grattan (2-for-4, two runs scored, two RBIs) also had big games in the victory.

For the Warriors, Vittoria Militi went 2-for-2 with a home run.

West Canada Valley 10, Westmoreland 5

West Canada Valley served the Bulldogs their first loss of the year after they had opened with eight straight victories.

In the win, Maggie Burdick went 3-for-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle while scoring three runs and driving in three. Hanna Burdick was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, and Trinity Kirchberg went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple a run scored and one RBI.

Mount Markham 5, Canastota 0

Madison Clark was lights out on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing a one-hit shutout with just one walk against 16 strikeouts. On offense, Katie Huntley led Mount Markham by going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
