The 11th annual Feed Seniors Now food drive benefitted 371 senior citizens living in Daviess County and surrounding areas earlier this month.

The event was part of a nationwide initiative to raise public awareness about food insecurity and hunger within the aging population.

The Feed Seniors Now food drive has been held locally since 2011. Local organizations and businesses such as Independence Bank, Green River Area Development District, Comfort Keepers, Specialty Food Groups LLC and Five Star Food Service partnered together to combat the growing crisis regarding food insecurity for seniors.

Each recipient received a variety of non-perishable food items, plus full packages of hot dogs and bologna donated from KY Legend along with frozen chicken donated from Tyson Foods.

Nick Oller, Independence Bank president, said being partners for the Feed Seniors Now event allows them to see the needs in the community and have the opportunity to help with that need.

“We were able to deliver to over 220 senior citizens just in Daviess County alone, and you start to realize the impact of what we’re doing and that it is making a difference to those in need,” Oller said.
