BAY CITY, MI — Police have released the name of a Bay City man found shot to death behind a South End party store.
Taylor J. Lall, 25, has been identified as the homicide victim found the night of Monday, May 24, in an alley behind Jan’s Party Store, 603 Garfield Ave., said Department of Public Safety Director Michael J. Cecchini.
Police at 9:50 p.m. Monday responded to a report of a man shot in the alley. Lall was found dead from at least one gunshot wound.
No arrests have been made in Lall’s killing, though Cecchini said he’s confident they are forthcoming.
“We have several leads,” said Bay City Department of Public Safety Director Michael J. Cecchni. “I do believe with our continued investigative efforts that we will be able to find the person or persons responsible for this act.”
Lall’s death is the city’s first homicide since that of Tyler R. Gruber on July 29, 2019. Prior to Lall’s death, the last homicide in Bay County as a whole was that of Heidi E. Dowd, whose burned body was found in Mount Forest Township on Aug. 17, 2020.
An autopsy showed Dowd had been shot at least once and then her body set on fire. No arrests have been made in Dowd’s killing, which is being investigated by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
Weapons offenses in Bay City have been rising in 2021, Cecchini said. Through April 30, the agency has had 32 weapons offenses, compared to four in that same span in 2020, an uptick of 700%, the director said.
