Social distancing is still a must between humans, but the Aquarium of the Pacific is allowing a few lucky people a day to once again get closer to their animals.
The Long Beach attraction has relaunched two more of its Animal Encounters programs that will let people feed animals and even get in the water with some of the sea life.
The Shark and Ray Encounter, which is a modified version of the Aquarium’s previous behind-the-scenes look at the shark pool, now lets people feed the sharks and rays in the touch pool.
The 30-minute session happens before the Aquarium opens to the public and is available to a maximum of four people per day from the same household.
Those who get tickets will be able to feed the bamboo sharks and then they will get a pair of water shoes so they can get into the pool where the rays swim around so they can feed them up close. The water is 18 inches deep so there is a minimum height requirement of 4 feet 6 inches.
Meanwhile the Aquarium’s Seal and Sea Lion Encounter also returns and will allow a maximum of four people from the same household per day in for a 30-minute behind-the-scenes look at the habitat during regular Aquarium hours.
The experience will include getting up close to one of the seals or sea lions and feeding them their lunch that day.
The Aquarium’s Animal Encounter programs were put on hiatus due to the pandemic but have slowly been returning.
In June, the Penguin Animal Encounter was relaunched and in September groups of up to 20 people were allowed to watch the seal and sea lions eat their breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings as part of a new Seals and Sea Lions Experience.
