ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team dominated Bradley as it earned the 3-0 win in a non-conference contest Friday night (Oct. 14) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The Wolverines outshot the Braves 22-4 and gave up just one shot on goal, while U-M tallied 12 shots on goal.
Freshman Nicholas Cassiday scored the game-winner with his first collegiate goal heading into the halftime break off an assist from Simon Vasquez. Senior Brennan Callow kept the momentum going for the Wolverines with a header off a pass from Bryce Blevins 21 seconds into the second half before Nicholas Kaloukian tacked on his second goal in as many games on a penalty-kick opportunity.
Sophomore Hayden Evans earned his second shutout of the season and third clean sheet of his career making one save.
Michigan (4-7-3) dominated the first half, peppering the Bradley keeper early as Cassiday put two shots on frame in the first 25 minutes and Nolan Miller had one shot on goal. Cassiday continued to find his chances, putting his third shot on goal in the 27th minute before firing a shot into the bottom-left corner of the net off a pass from Vasquez with 33 seconds left in the first half.
Michigan outshot Bradley 14-3 in the first half with six shots on goal, including four from Cassiday.
The Wolverines held the momentum coming out of the halftime break as they earned a free kick 40-yards out. Blevins looped the ball into the 18-yard box for a breaking Callow, who headed the ball down and into the bottom-left of the net in the 47th minute to give U-M a 2-0 advantage.
Michigan continued to dominate Bradley (3-7-3) as it tallied four shots in a 10-minute span, including back-to-back headers from Kaloukian. Cassiday drew what would be a huge foul just inside the 18-yard box in the 66th minute which led to Kaloukian's second goal in as many games as he buried the penalty-kick opportunity to tack on a security goal for the Maize and Blue.
The U-M defense gave up just one shot in the closing 30 minutes and the Wolverines locked up the 3-0 non-conference victory.
Michigan returns to Big Ten Conference action Friday (Oct. 21) when it takes on Rutgers for a 7 p.m. match that will be streamed live on B1G+.
