The No. 13 Nebraska rifle team used a record-setting performance to defeat No. 11 Air Force by a score of 4,717-4,692 on Saturday.
The Huskers, who improved to 3-0 on the season, broke school record for aggregate (4,717) and smallbore (2,345). The total broke the school mark of 4,707 set at the 2020 NCAA qualifier, while the previous smallbore mark of 2,239 was set against Air Force back in 2005.
"I am incredibly proud of my team," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "They set multiple records for Nebraska. There were so many great scores by all members of the team. Smallbore was very impressive. The team could pick up some extra points in air rifle. However, it was still an outstanding match. Onto tomorrow and another great performance from team."
Huskers took three spots in the top five overall on Saturday. Junior All-American Madelynn Erickson placed first overall with a score of 1,181, while Cecelia Ossi (1,181, 2nd) and Emma Rhode (1,181, third) completed the sweep.
In the air rifle, Erickson and Ossi placed in the top five, as Erickson finished fourth (594) and Ossi added a fifth-place showing (594).
In the smallbore, Nebraska shooters took the top-three finishes in the event. Erickson led the Huskers in first place with a score of 589, while Rhode (second, 589) and Ossi (third, 587) also posted top-three showings.
