HSU comes from behind in road soccer win

Humboldt State’s men fought back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Stanislaus State Warriors at their Turlock home pitch Thursday night.

Goalie Adrian Gallardo kept the home team off the scoreboard throughout the first half, with a key stop facing off against Stanislaus player Finn Hoffman who fired an on-target shot. The intervention was the first of five saves for the keeper hailing from Hesperia.

However, the home squad found the back of the net 14 minutes in when Dayne Sturtevant made good on an assist from teammate Julian Madrigal for the Warriors’ only goal of the game.

After a difficult first half, the Lumberjacks reversed the home team’s momentum, coming out in full force.

Edgar Castaneda fired HSU’s first attempt at goal three minutes after halftime. The pressure continued through the opening minutes of the second half.

Finally, in the 67th minute, Yushi Kato tied up the game. Ramiro Rosas followed up with a game-winning shot at the 71st minute of regulation. The game-winner is Rosas’ first goal as a collegiate player.

HSU’s men will play their next match at home on Sunday at 2 p.m. when the team takes on CSU East Bay.
