The Florida Panthers, with a record-setting second period, defeated the visiting Dallas Stars 3-1 on Monday night at Sunrise, Fla.

Trailing 1-0, Florida changed the game’s momentum with its gigantic second period, scoring twice and outshooting Dallas 29-4. That set a record for most shots on goal for any period in franchise history. It was also a record defensively for Dallas.

Anton Khudobin matched a career-high with 49 saves for the Stars, who got a goal from Blake Comeau.

The Panthers got goals from a pair of defensemen -- Aaron Ekblad and Keith Yandle -- and 24 saves from Chris Driedger. Forward Aleksander Barkov added an empty-net goal with 28 seconds left.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 5-0-0 this season following a loss. Overall, the Panthers have won six of their past eight games.

The Stars, who have not won a game since Feb. 2, lost their sixth straight contest (0-3-3), although they did get three points during that span.

This was the start of a five-game, eight-day road trip for the Stars, who had four contests postponed last week due to the worst winter storm in Texas in decades, an event that caused power outages throughout the state.

Dallas opened the scoring with 4:29 gone in the first. After a long shot by Jason Robertson, Driedger struggled to corral the rebound. He got a glove on it, but Comeau shoved the puck in for his first goal since Feb. 15, 2020.

Florida tied the score on Ekblad’s long blast with 8:41 expired in the second. Khudobin got a piece of the shot, but the puck bounced in off his glove.

The Panthers took a 2-1 lead with 1:42 left in their dominant second period. The play was set up by Anthony Duclair’s speed on the rush. Yandle then took a shot from beyond the left circle, and the puck found the back of the net with the help of a screen from Barkov.
