KENILWORTH, NJ - The nonprofit clothing line Be Nice Co. launched by David Brearley Middle-Senior High School students is running their second event to feed families in need now through March 10.
Be Nice Co. has designed four new clothing items and with each item sold the profits will be donated to Saint Theresa's Food Pantry. “Not only can you get a hold of apparel, but you can be the reason a family receives a meal,” the group said. To make a purchase go to the Be Nice Co. website HERE.
The newsletter, a collaboration written by the students explains the objective of Be Nice Co. and why they chose St. Theresa's Food Pantry to donate to.
As a non-profit company, the goal of our organization is to boost morale, put a smile on people’s faces, making them feel good within Kenilworth and local communities. Students work alongside one another to create and market clothing items, run social media and, involve themselves with reaching out to the community.
As we work to continue our journey, we select a specific charitable organization, this time around being - Saint Theresa's Food Pantry. This local food pantry prioritizes eliminating hunger within our local community and surrounding areas. The food pantry collects, stores, and distributes food donations to feed the hungry. As well as food donations, money is accepted to buy specific items. It is run entirely by volunteers, with room for newcomers who are willing to be a helping hand. Some of our team took time to help out and the experience served as a major eye-opener. Now more than ever, the food pantry is in desperate need of help from the people to sustain the necessities.
Here is what some of the team members had to say.
"When talking to Mrs. Devlin about the need for food and house supplies amongst family, I truly had an eye opener. Mrs. Devlin thoroughly went through how many families are in need of food and house supplies, and what specifics were the most needed. I understood that not all families were as lucky as others, especially during this pandemic, but when she stated how many families there were I was in complete shock. Going through the interview I realized how hard it must be for families and how agonizing it must be to not have a meal to provide for your family every day. Not everyone in life has the same privilege nor luck as others, that's a given. Overall, what I took away from the interview with the Kenilworth Food Pantry's Mrs. Devlin, was that people need to start or continue looking out for each other more and helping as much as they can. So in the end, life is rough and there's going to be lows and highs throughout it, but if everyone sticks together and looks out for one another, like donating food to families in need, things will turn out alright." - Sophomore Vaughn Marranca on what he learned from interviewing Mrs. Devlin, one of the pantry organizers.
" I realized that a lot of people are in need of food and supplies. It was a great experience [volunteering at the pantry] overall and I was happy to see others smile" - Senior Angelina Vicente on volunteering at the pantry.
"I learned that not everyone has the same life as me and we should be thankful for what we have. While volunteering at the pantry I thought it was interesting making the bags of specific things we had to prepare to go items for people in need" - Senior Alexa Lima on volunteering at the pantry.
"While creating the designs for Supplying Smiles, all the current fashion trends were kept in mind, but exceeded with the items put out. From the centered logo to the iconic university crewneck, this drop is for sure not to miss out upon!" - Senior Krishna Mehta on designing this drop.
