Medium Rare Restaurant owner Mark Bucher is bringing the Feed The Fridge program to Takoma Park on Monday, February 8, according to an announcement from The City of Takoma Park.

“Food insecurity has been at a rise due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the announcement reads. “Medium Rare restaurant owner Mark Bucher has launched a new program to decrease food insecurity. Bucher is an entrepreneur, restaurant owner, advocate, and now founder of the Feed the Fridge Program!”

“Each refrigerator is filled with between 25 and 100 meals a day, Monday through Friday. The meals are sourced from high quality restaurants throughout the DC area who provide a variety of cuisines. Made fresh each day with each meal including — 30% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 30% vegetable.

“Starting Monday, February 8, 2021. Students, seniors and others in need are invited to walk up to the refrigerator and help themselves. No questions.”

The refrigerator will be located outside the Takoma Park Recreation Center at 7315 New Hampshire Ave.

According to the organization’s website, Feed the Fridge “is an effort to bring nourishment where there is hunger while helping pandemic-battered restaurants stay in business. We do this by placing refrigerators around the DC metro area and paying local restaurants to fill them with fresh meals daily. We also hand-deliver holiday meals to seniors who cannot leave their homes.”
