ONEIDA — Ron and Jim DeMauro are concerned that especially with a second pandemic shutdown possible, more neighbors may be unable to find the resources to feed their pets.
The DeMauros run a rescue for special-needs huskies with behavioral issues, so caring for animals comes near and dear to their hearts. Ron DeMauro said through their efforts, they hope more struggling neighbors will be able to keep their pets, with their help, through this challenging time.
“I’ve noticed a lot with COVID-19, many people are struggling to pay one bill to the next, and to make it easier, if they can’t afford a bag of cat or dog food a week, money raised will help them out,” said Ron.
Ron recognized Wanderers Rest for having a food pantry for pets, but said he said sometimes people are unable to make it down to the shelter.
DeMauro said he hopes the money raised and food donations they collect will help fill that niche.
“The need is definitely there,” he said. “We’re all afraid of a second shutdown, and if that happens, some businesses may be closed permanently. We hope this collection can help.”
The DeMauros are also holding a bottle and can drive. And they also invite neighbors to donate bags of cat and dog food, as well as cat litter and food for other small pets, like bird feed.
Donations of food and pet needs, as well as collected bottles and cans, may be dropped off or sent to the DeMauro residence at 534 Lenox Ave., Oneida, N.Y. 13421.
