YOUNGSTOWN — Through the efforts of the Boo Squad’s Thanksgiving Food Drive, 200 Mahoning Valley families will receive holiday meals this year.

The Boo Squad is a volunteer group for children age 7 to 13. The group’s goal is to teach children about teamwork, volunteerism and compassion.

“Many families have members who have been laid off from work and are struggling because of COVID-19,” Heather Hrina-Medvec, Boo Squad director, said in a news release. “The goal of this mission is to teach our youth to be thankful — thankful for many day-to-day needs that we all take for granted.”

In 2017, the group’s Thanksgiving Food Drive fed 10 families. It fed 35 families in 2018 and 67 families in 2019. The Boo Squad Fund doubled its goal of feeding 100 families this Thanksgiving. The children in the group will participate in the delivery of the meals during a contactless drive-thru at Southwoods.
