WEST CALN TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A longtime school board member was killed when a small plane crashed Thursday afternoon in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
The crash was reported at about 1:30 p.m. in a neighborhood in West Caln Township.
The small plane, a twin-engine Gulfstream American GA-7, crashed in an area between a home and some trees in the 500 block of Old Wilmington Road.
Authorities said a man in his 60s was killed in the crash. His name has not yet been released by police, but Action News has confirmed the victim is Octorara Area School District School Board Sam Ganow.
"Earlier today, we learned that Sam lost his life in a plane crash in Coatesville, leaving us with a deep sense of loss and grief," said the school district in a statement.
Pennsylvania State Senator Carolyn Comitta expressed her condolences on Facebook saying," Very saddened to hear of the tragic and untimely passing of Octorara School Board President Sam Ganow in a plane crash in the Coatesville area today."

According to the FAA, he was the only person on board the plane.
Neighbors said the property is owned by the Amish and there is an Amish school on the property.
According to Flight Aware, the plane went down two minutes after taking off from the nearby Chester County Airport.
"I think he definitely avoided the house, for sure, and lost his engine or something and then he avoided the house and came down behind it," said John Keating, of West Caln Township.
Action News has learned the plane was featured in a YouTube video called Rebuild Rescue. The people in the video buy planes and fix them up.
There was no immediate word on what caused the crash.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
