GREENVILLE, N.C. – Brylee Kelly had 29 kills to set a new rally-scoring record for kills in a four-set match, and Wichita State overcame two large deficits to defeat East Carolina 29-31, 25-22, 35-33, 25-21.

The Shockers (18-9, 12-6) improved to 7-0 all-time against ECU.

Kelly's 29 kills matched her career high set earlier this season at SMU on October 10. She surpassed the previous program record of 24 kills in a four-setter, established by Camri Zwiesler (at Missouri State, 10/2/10) and Tabitha Brown (Miami OH, 9/2/17).

It was an afternoon full of missed opportunities on both sides, as the match featured 17 total set points that were not scored. The back-and-forth began in the first set, with WSU falling into a quick 6-1 hole but eventually climbing back to tie the set at 23-23. The Shockers fought off four set points to take leads of 28-27 and 29-28 on Kelly kills, but the Pirates scored the last three points to grab the opening set. Kelly finished with 11 kills in the first stanza alone, the most for any Shocker in any single set this season.

The Shockers found themselves trailing late in the second set, 18-17, after ECU fired off four straight points. WSU put together a crucial 5-1 run, buoyed by two blocks from Morgan Stout and a Kelly ace. The Pirates scored two points to briefly remain alive, but Sophia Rohling dropped in a kill to get the Shockers across the finish line, 25-22.

The third set ultimately featured 68 points, the most combined points in any set WSU has played this season. The Shockers found themselves trailing 20-14, but then embarked on a 9-2 run to take the lead at 23-22. Sophie Childs and Hailey Plugge came off the bench to make big contributions during the spurt, as Childs had two kills and Plugge added a service ace. What followed was one of the more remarkable stretches of the season, as the two teams traded the next 21 points to reach 33-33. With the set hanging in the balance, the Shockers turned to Kelly, who powered down two straight kills to give the Shockers a 35-33 win.

East Carolina (9-18, 5-13) sprinted out to a 15-5 lead in the fourth set, forcing two Wichita State timeouts. After inching back to within 18-9, WSU then blitzed the Pirates with a 14-1 run, including three Stout blocks and four kills from Rohling. Kailin Newsome and Lily Liekweg chipped in with aces, and the Shockers found themselves in front, 23-19. The Pirates strung together two straight points to stop the bleeding, but another Rohling kill and an attack error from Amelia Davis put the match away.

Rohling finished with 12 kills and six blocks, while Liekweg provided a team-high 23 digs and a career-high eight assists. 13 different Shockers saw the floor in the win.

The Shockers return to Charles Koch Arena next week for the final two matches of the regular season. SMU comes to Wichita on Wednesday; first serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
