While most people are out shopping the week of Christmas, Marisa McClinton was cooking.
“Something just came over me wanting to help the city of Kingston and wanting to do something more,” said Operation Feed Kingston organizer Marisa McClinton.
With everything from ham and turkey to stuffing and pie, McClinton, along with dozens of volunteers, gave out Christmas to-go meals. They call it Operation Feed Kingston and gave out enough food for 600 people.
“Everything that we’ve gone through in 2020, I feel that now people need to understand that there’s hope on the horizon that there’s light in the dark that there’s something bigger than ourselves. I felt that Christmas was the perfect time to do it because everyone’s without their loved ones they can’t travel they can’t do these things, so at least as a community let’s come out and show them that there’s something bigger than the crisis we are going through,” McClinton said.
McClinton says she was prepared to fund the project with her own wallet but the community pulled through and the donations came pouring in.
“I got a lot of donations from people, I went to different stores and got donations, co-workers donated I mean the community it was just an outpouring of help and support,” McClinton said.
