The Chicago Bears are right in the thick of the NFL playoff race with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. Their best bet is to win their final two games, which starts with the 1-13 Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
While this game should be an easy win for the Bears, they need to approach this game just as they have the last two, intent on starting fast and finishing strong en route to keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Before the game, we caught up with managing editor James Johnson of Jaguars Wire to get the scoop on the Bears’ Week 16 opponent.
Here are five questions with Jaguars Wire:
1 With the Jets winning last week, Jacksonville is in a good position to draft Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. What are your thoughts on tanking, and do you ever think that would cross the mind of a franchise like the Jaguars?
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports
I believe the Jags need to do anything in their power to land Trevor Lawrence as they are at a point in team history where they arguably could benefit from him more than any team. He’d help them tremendously on and off the field, giving the city somewhat of an ambassador and marketing tool, while giving the Jags a face of their franchise and helping them do something they struggle with: win.
Acquiring the No. 1 draft pick is very crucial for the Jags at this point. However, I don’t think tanking is necessary to acquire him because they aren’t very good and are young. If they are who we’ve seen these last two weeks, their best shouldn’t be enough against the Bears and Indianapolis Colts, who are both fighting to make the playoffs and fighting to keep a playoff spot, respectively. Sure there is talent on the team and they can play good teams close, but at the end of the day, teams with experience should be able to overtake them by finishing games strong.2 There hasn’t been a lot going well for the Jaguars this season, but a bright spot has been rookie RB James Robinson. Does Jacksonville have a star on its hands?
Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports
For sure. He’s a stud, and I honestly believed he at least should’ve been a fifth-round pick in April when the Jags got him. He’s exceeded that bar and is looking more like a first to second-round pick now. Robinson is a force of nature who rarely gets caught for a loss, and his acceleration to the second level is impressive. Sure, he won’t exactly run away from people for long gains for the most part, but the Jags just needed a player who can garner the tough yardage. He does that as well as anyone.
3 The Bears offense has been on a tear over the last month, averaging 31 points per game. Where do you think Chicago can find success against this Jaguars defense?
AP Photo/Bruce Kluckhohn
Just about everywhere, to be honest. There have been times where the Jags have been sporadic against the run, then times where they’ve been terrible against the pass. There have also been times where they’ve been bad against both at the same time. For this game, in particular, I think the Bears should ride the momentum of David Montgomery. Even if that’s not working, adjusting to taking advantage of their wounded secondary shouldn’t be hard with Allen Robinson. The Jags will be starting backup level corners in Tre Herndon and Greg Mabin, both of whom Robinson should have no issues with beating with his athleticism.
4 What match-up intrigues you most in this contest?

Well, I initially thought James Robinson would be healthy for this game and thought watching him and Montgomery battle as rushers would be fun. However, if Robinson plays, he won’t be 100% as he is questionable with an ankle injury. However, going back to what I said in the last question, I’m intrigued to see how A-Rob looks. He really is a player the Jags should’ve kept, in all honesty. I also want to see how former Jags safety Tashaun Gipson looks on defense, too.
5 What's your prediction for the game?
AP Photo/Bruce Kluckhohn
I think the Bears could win by a touchdown or more. If Khalil Mack plays, it’s hard to see a lot going the Jags’ way offensively because the tackle play has been pretty bad. If Montgomery is having a good day on top of that, the Bears can really hit that mark. That said, I’ll go 21-14 in favor of the Bears.
