CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – 5 Star Media Group is once again partnering with Manna Café Ministries for Combat Hunger to help feed the less fortunate in Clarksville.
The 11th annual Combat Hunger is happening Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at grocery store locations throughout Clarksville.
The plan is to stock the shelves for Manna Cafe, which has had to ramp up this year because of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re busy,” Manna founder Kenny York told Clarksville Now. “We’re serving food like never before. More meals than we’ve ever served, serving more people, and trying to address our homeless situation and seeing what we can do to make things better.”
Manna relies on Combat Hunger to ensure they have what they need.
“If we didn’t do these type of food drives, it wouldn’t take long for our shelves to be empty,” York said.
Volunteers will be helping out at all of the Combat Hunger grocery stores, and, along with food items, monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase food.
Safety precautions will be in place, including masks and gloves. Donors can use QR codes to transfer shopping lists to their phones.
Typical items on the list include canned soup, spaghetti sauce, canned meat and peanut butter.
“Sometimes people will come out with a whole buggy of food, and sometimes they’ll donate money,” York said.
Food collection stations will be set up at all three Walmarts, all three Walmart Neighborhood Markets, all three Krogers, Hilltop Market and Dollar General Market, plus the Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General Market in Dover.
