Supporting first responders and residents impacted by Hurricane Laura, World Central Kitchen(WCK) is on the ground ready to feed those in need.

As Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane along the Texas-Louisiana border, two relief teams were sent to Beaumont and Lafayette, Louisiana, from the humanitarian organization to begin cooking meals.

ORGANIZATIONS HELPING THOSE AFFECTED BY HURRICANE: How to help people in Hurricane Laura's devastating wake

Founded by José Andrés in 2010 after a devastating earthquake that hit Haiti, according to their Facebook page, WCK was created "with the belief that food can be an agent of change."

"From serving children in the shelters on our border with Mexico to making deliveries by lamplight to those keeping watch over beaches in Indonesia, our fight to feed the hungry has taken us to more places than we ever expected," said Andrés via the website.

Chef Tim Kilcoyne, director of chef operations for WCK, shared a video on Twitter as his team was preparing to settle down for the night in Beaumont to wait out the storm Wednesday night before starting to cook.

"Our @WCKitchen teams are safe and locked down on both sides of Hurricane #Laura! Kitchens are stocked, generators fueled, and stoves ready to fire... As always we will be ready to adapt & support those in need of a plate of food in the days ahead," said Andrés in a Twitter post.

Sam Bloch, director of field operations with WCK, shared a video on Twitter providing the update for his team that was hunkered down Wednesday night in Lafayette, Louisiana, prior to beginning cooking for those residents affected by Laura.

"Right now we have a couple of folks accessing for us on the ground in Lake Charles to determine the size of the need there," said Chef Kilcoyne. "As soon as that is determined, then we'll figure out if we need to send both of our teams to one location."

Currently, the teams are busy getting hot meals and sandwiches made and will be taking these, along with fresh fruit to first responders in Port Arthur and communities affected by Hurricane Laura in Sulphur and Lake Charles, according to a recent Facebook post.

"You can always have a plan of having food needs taken care of, but until the actual event happens you don't know where extra help is needed," said Kilcoyne, who also shared they provide food to first responders to help them get through the long hours they face.

"It's good to be able to provide a meal to someone that has gone through something a bit devastating," said Kilcoyne. "It's one less thing they need to worry about and now they can focus on what they need to get done to move on or to get their life back in order."
