RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Following visits around the country, President Joe Biden is now headed to what the campaign calls the “The Southwest” where Arizona and Nevada will be integral to the President’s re-election.
“Remember Nevada is probably one of the four best states to raise money in,” says Professor Fred Lokken with the Political Science Department of Truckee Meadows Community College. “(That’s) for Republicans or Democrats and so that puts us on the map right off the bat.”
Which is why Lokken says Tuesday’s Presidential visit will be more low key than what we may see later in the campaign season.
This visit could be like what we saw in Wisconsin where Biden is rallying the troops, or an even more private affair where he meets with major donors in northern Nevada. We haven’t received many details yet.
But Lokken says internal polling has most likely placed the Silver State on a must win map for the Biden campaign. Unless something drastic happens, that means plenty of money spent on both sides leading up to November.
“An insane amount of money dumped into the state from outside of Nevada,” says Lokken. “We will see political action dark money abound in an attempt to influence the election. And it could be more on the Republican side than we have ever seen.”
Lokken says now is the time for the Biden campaign to touch on campaign themes to see how they play out. Topics like job creation, infrastructure, and a woman’s right to choose.
These are the same topics included in his State of the Union address where the campaign says it raised $10,000,000 dollars in a 24-hour period. That’s part of the $53,000,000 dollars in donations for the entire month of February.
Money that is being used to open three times more Biden campaign offices nationwide when compared to 2020.
And certainly, to fund campaign stops up to November, which will include more than one stop right here in northern Nevada.
