Vikings Corral Mustangs in Offensive Outburst Behind Fink's 37 Points - Augustana College Vikings

MARSHALL, Minn. – Behind a career-high 37 points from Isaac Fink and a season-best 58.6 percent shooting, the Augustana men's basketball team routed Southwest Minnesota State 103-74 Saturday in Marshall, Minnesota.
 
Augustana, ranked No. 19 in the D2SIDA Top-25, improves to 8-1 on the season and 2-1 in the NSIC. The Mustangs fall to 5-3 overall and 1-2 within league play.
 
The story of the game was Fink as the junior tallied six-straight 3-point makes in a row to close the game and scored 24 of his 37 points in the second half. In addition, Adam Dykman recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The start of the game looked much different than the end as SMSU and AU were deadlocked through nearly 10 minutes into the game. After the Mustangs took an 18-15 lead, Dykman recorded an offensive rebound and went up where he got the bucket and the foul.
 
Dykman sank the free throw to knot the game at 18-all, Augustana scored 10 straight points to take a 25-18 lead with 8:57 on the clock in the first half.
 
After hovering with a lead in the same margin for much of the remainder of the half, the offense took off with four minutes remaining. The Vikings turned a 36-29 advantage into a 51-33 lead at half to conclude a 15-2 run.
 
After shooting 52.9 percent from the field in the opening half, the Vikings simply raised the bar in the second half to shoot 63.9 percent in the half and make 6-of-8 from 3-point range.
 
The second half was simple all Augustana and the Fink offensive show with his 24 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from deep in the half and was 9-of-11.
 
The offensive outburst was aided by Jameson Bryan with eight assists and Dylan LeBrun setting a new career-best with eight assists. In all, AU recorded 31 assists, tying a mark they set on Dec. 9, 2017, and was at least the third time in program history with 31 or more assists.
 
In addition to the prolific offensive output, Augustana turned the ball over just seven times.
 
All 13 active players for the Vikings saw action in the game with all five starters scoring 11 or more points. After Fink and Dykman, Tyler Riemersma recorded 16 points, LeBrun 12 and Bryan 11. To go along with his 16 points, Riemersma totaled eight rebounds and four steals.
 
Augustana returns to its home court inside the Sanford Pentagon on Friday hosting Minnesota State at 5:30 p.m. The Vikings play host to Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday for a 5:30 start.
