Johnny Juzang and Jaime Jaquez Jr. hit back-to-back clutch shots in overtime to help No. 2 UCLA beat No. 4 Villanova 86-77 in overtime on Friday.
Tied 69-69, Juzang hit a turnaround jump shot, and Jaquez followed on the next possession with a 3-pointer to give the Bruins a five-point lead — part of a 7-0 UCLA run in OT. Juzang finished with a game-high 25 points and Jaquez had 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for the Bruins (2-0).
Jaquez scored seven of UCLA's 19 points in OT. Jules Bernard had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Tyger Campbell had 14 points and four assists for the Bruins.
Tied 67-67 with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter, Villanova’s Justin Moore missed a shot at the rim on good defense by Jaylen Clark to send the game to overtime. Prior to that, Bernard made a jumper to tie the game with 32 seconds left in regulation.
Jermaine Samuels led Villanova (1-1) with 20 points, and Collin Gillespie added 18.
