SEBREE, Ky. (WFIE) - A partnership to help feed families in rural communities kicked off Thursday morning.

An “Alliance to Defeat Hunger” with a 10-city tour across the nation to help feed rural areas.

The group made a stop in Sebree to partner with Breaking Bread Ministries.

Cars were lined up right outside of Sebree city hall.

Feed the Children non-profit, Tyson Foods, and Americold came to provide food and household items.

“What we’re trying to do is help rural families that don’t have the resources or access to food and essentials that some of the bigger city people have,” Chet Jones with Feed the Children said.

The organization is on a tour helping people across the United States, and they chose Sebree as one of only 10 stops.

“To think that Sebree, Kentucky, is one of those 10 places out of the nation is just so awesome,” Webster County Judge-Executive Steve Henry said. “We’re just so thankful, and appreciative of everything they’re doing.”

Families are each getting a 25-pound box of non-perishable food, a 15-pound box of personal care supplies and some Tyson meats.

Leftovers aren’t going to waste.

“What’s leftover is going to be sent to the school to the food bank, food pantry that we’ve already established to go into households after today,” Sebree Elementary Principal Brooklyn Boggs said.

Boggs says she’s grateful these supplies can go to even more people, even beyond Sebree.

“Oh, it makes my heart so happy to know that we’re helping not only our city, but the entire county,” Boggs said. “It’s just knowing that our kids can go home and have food, and aren’t hungry is just so satisfying and it’s so great to have a community we can connect with to establish that.”

“Oh gosh, it’s so heartwarming, because when you go to rural America, they don’t have access to transportation to even get nutritious food, so we’re here to deliver it to them,” Jones said.

Officials say the drive brought $200,000 worth of food to Webster County Schools.
