Food, fun and more brought people out to Martin Luther King Park in downtown Rochester on Sunday.
Persephone Modest found herself babysitting her great nieces and nephew. She had heard about the "Indeed We Feed" event happening and brought them out for the afternoon.
“For as long as we’ve been cooped up, it’s a safe environment to bring kids to come play," Modest said. "We need that. We’re social creatures."
The event provided free meals and entertainment to community members.
Cierra Caldwell and two others founded "Indeed We Feed" last year during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Started off just in cars handing people meals. Now look at this huge event. We’ve already had 400 people pass through," Caldwell said.
Booths offered information on free child care and taxes. Even job opportunities were all on site.
A local barbershop was on hand giving out fresh back-to-school cuts as well, all for free.
For Caldwell, she wants the event to highlight what the city is really about.
“There is a lot of violence in Rochester. To combat that, we want to show what Rochester is really all about: community."
