KALAMAZOO, MI -- Feed the Fight Kalamazoo, an organization founded to feed frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic, is ending as COVID-19 restrictions lift across the state.
The organization will feed its final meals Wednesday and Thursday this week after delivering nearly 10,000 meals in Kalamazoo since the pandemic first hit the community, according to a press release from Feed the Fight Kalamazoo.
“Feed the Fight Kalamazoo was founded to provide an avenue for community members to ‘do something’ to support our frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic — giving money, volunteering their time to deliver meals, sharing our messages, creating our posters, scheduling restaurants to order meals from, and so much more,” the release said. “The time has come to say thank you and farewell.”
In total, the organization delivered 9,941 meals and purchased meals from 107 local restaurants. More than 350 people made donations to the organization, and dozens of volunteers made the work possible.

The organization expressed gratitude to Colleagues International, its fiscal sponsor, for supporting the program since its creation in April 2020.
“Most of all, we want to thank the people who have been providing the healthcare work in the community, the frontline responders, in the difficult, scary work of dealing with this pandemic,” co-founder Adam Strong-Morse said. “We wanted to reach out to help them, and the community really responded and came together.”
Feed the Fight delivered meals to COVID-19 testing and vaccination workers at the Family Health Center, Bronson Healthcare Group, Kalamazoo County facilities and other community clinics, the release said.
“The appreciation felt by our healthcare heroes who ate these meals is the reason we did this in the first place,” the release said. “Knowing that we made their dangerous work even a little bit easier makes all of our work worthwhile.”
