A Westminster police officer was injured early Saturday morning when the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle, which was stopped at a red light.
The three-vehicle crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. at West 88th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard, police said.
The officer was westbound, stopped at a red light, when a pickup truck, at a high rate speed, smashed into the patrol vehicle from behind, police said. The patrol vehicle careened into a vehicle in front of it that was also stopped for the light. The drivers of all three vehicles were taken to local hospitals. The officer has been treated and released.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash. The driver of the pickup truck is suspected of driving under the influence, the CSP said.
Further information on the injuries of the suspect driver and the third driver was not released Saturday morning.
In a separate three-vehicle crash in Denver on Friday afternoon, one person was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The crash in Denver happened at about 4:30 p.m. at Park Avenue West and Broadway, police said. The crash temporarily shut down the busy stretch of roadway just east of downtown Denver.
The driver of a Buick sedan was making a turn onto Broadway when the car was hit by a semi truck, police said. The Buick then careened into a gray hatchback.
The injured driver of the Buick was in critical condition on Saturday, police said. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
