On Friday, Feeding Tampa Bay is launching an initiative to help, "Cereal for Summer."
"Cereal for Summer" is a program Feeding Tampa Bay offers each year, and this year, they've partnered with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, TG Lee and the Dairy Council of Florida.
On Friday, TG Lee will deliver the first shipment of milk for the program, and the milk along with cereal, will be available for families to pick up at mega pantries on Saturday.
Thomas Mantz, president and CEO of Feeding Tampa Bay, said this year's "Cereal for Summer" program is even more crucial because even though a lot of parents are back at work, it takes time to recoup losses from the pandemic, add to that the increasing prices of food and gas, and it makes it even harder to catch up.
"Things are a little bit better but I think the thing we all have to remember is that even though folks are going back to work it does take a while to rebuild your family capability so even though you may be getting a paycheck it's going to take you a while to get out from under," said Mantz.
TG Lee donated 2,500 gallons of milk for the program and Feeding Tampa Bay is accepting cereal donations on May 14, at the Publix in Britton Plaza in Tampa and the Publix in Disston Plaza in St. Pete.
