New Hewlett Packard Enterprise Worldwide Channel Chief George Hope says HPE’s “partner-first” channel heritage is a stark contrast to competitors that flip back and forth with regard to channel commitment.
“We have partnered consistently for 80 years,” said Hope, a 22-year channel veteran who officially takes the role of HPE Worldwide Channel Chief effective Oct. 1. “We are not partner yes, partner no, year after year. We have been very, very consistent with how we have partnered with the channel. We see the partner community as not just an extension of our team, but as part of our family and we need to feed our family. Our family needs to make money.”
Hope, who has spent the last three years overseeing the worldwide distribution business for HPE, said he has seen first-hand the power of the HPE channel business when he was competing against HPE as vice president of global channels for SimpliVity before it was acquired by HPE in 2017.
“As an HPE outsider (working at SimpliVity) before the acquisition, I had conversations with partners where they would tell me if they sold more of my [SimpliVity] solution it would dilute their overall margin,” he said. “These were HPE partners saying this because the HPE programs were so lucrative that doing more business with me as not HPE at the time would actually cost them profitability. So I have been competing with this for years. Now I think it is great to be part of it.”
