Farmingdale State - 85, Mount Saint Vincent - 79 (F/OT)

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State was down 11, 66-55, with only 4:15 to play before mounting a come-from-behind, 85-79, overtime victory over Mount Saint Vincent this afternoon. The men's basketball team captured its seventh straight victory behind a career-high 31 points from senior guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Skyline play.

Today was the Fifth Annual CYO Day at FSC as fourth and fifth grade teams from across Long Island attended a free clinic and pizza party with coaches and players prior to the game!

The game was knotted at 24-24 behind 12 points from Hurowitz with 7:14 to play in the first half.

With the score still tied, 30-30, freshman forward Macai John (Hauppauge, N.Y.) made a jumper to put the Rams in front, but Mount Saint Vincent (2-6, 1-2 Skyline) responded with a 9-0 run to take a 39-32 advantage.

Freshman guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer in the final minute of the half as FSC trailed by four, 39-35, at the break.

Dolphins senior guard Dan Porcic led all scorers with 15 points in the first 20 minutes.

Across the first 6:23 of the second half, Mount Saint Vincent increased their lead to 11, 53-42.

After a timeout by the Rams, senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded three points before a Notias basket cut the deficit to six at 53-47.

The Dophins followed with a dunk and a 3-pointer in a 5-2 run to go back up by nine, 58-49.

FSC was down 66-55 with 4:15 remaining and used two free-throws from senior forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) and a layup by junior guard Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.) to close within seven.

The Rams cut their deficit to five with 1:41 on the clock, before junior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game.

With 33 seconds remaining, a Santos foul put DJ Tucker at the line, but he missed both as the score remained 69-67.

On the other end, Hurowitz drew a foul with 20 seconds to play and hit two free-throws to tie the game at 69-69.

Porcic missed a jumper at the buzzer as the game went into overtime.

Farmingdale State won the tip to start the OT period and Notias converted a layup to give the Rams their first lead, 71-69, since the first half.

Mount Saint Vincent senior guard Aaron Darab quickly answered with a corner 3 to put the Dolphins ahead, 72-71.

With 2:46 on the clock, Hurowitz was fouled and knocked down both free-throws to regain a one-point edge. Just 11 seconds later, Hurowitz blocked a shot which led to two free-throws for Powell.

The Dolphins missed a 3 before Powell hit a jump shot to put FSC ahead by five, 77-72.

FSC would bury two free-throws apiece from Hurowitz and Notias to take a commanding nine-point lead, 81-72, with 49 seconds remaining.

Hurowitz and Powell hit two more free-throws each in the final seconds as the Rams earned the come-from-behind 85-79 victory.

Hurowitz shot 7-for-14 from the field and was 15-for-16 from the foul line, tying the all-time school record for free-throws made in a single game. He also recorded eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Powell and Notias notched 11 points apiece, while Riggins had six points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Santos produced five points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Porcic and Joshua Cabezudo registered 23 and 22 points, respectively, for the Dolphins.

The men's basketball team next will play host to non-conference opponent Union (N.Y.) on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m.
