The team behind Hando and Kanpai Club is slated to open its newest concept, Dinette—a Vietnamese-inspired kitchen and bar—later in July at 1018 N. Shepherd Drive, Houston.

According to a June 24 press release, the restaurant will serve classic dishes and drinks. The menu will highlight small to medium plates such as tamarind wings and thit kho on crispy rice and larger family-style dishes, including a brisket with puff pho noodles.

Upon entering, guests will be greeted with a “modern industrial 50-seat dining room” with accented Asian touches that offers a mix of traditional dining tables, bar-height communal tables and seating at a full-service bar, the release said.

Jason Andaya, a Houston native and one of the co-owners behind the new concept, told Community Impact Newspaper that Dinette came as a natural next concept. He said growing up, he and his friends went to Vietnamese restaurants around the city, but he feels that the restaurants have not grown up with them. With Dinette, he said he hopes to change this.

“We kind of put our roots down [in the Heights] for the first time,” Andaya said. “The neighborhood has been so great to us that it felt like it would be nice to put Dinette in the Heights also.”

He said people can expect the same level of quality service, cocktails and food found at Hando but with the Vietnamese options. www.dinettehtx.com
