For this week's community food share Feed Evansville stopped by the Fulton Square apartments to give out free fresh produce and other food.
In an effort to fight against hunger in the community, Feed Evansville provides boxes of food and lunches to people in need. Just last year they delivered around 6 thousand food boxes and to help those without transportation they began a mobile program.
Chair of Feed Evansville, Lisa Vaughn, says they're making their way around town giving out free food to families in low income neighborhoods.
"This is actually a little bit more than what we're used to, I usually will bring my truck up we had premade boxes, we had the residents come out they'll help me un pack and we hand them out to everybody but our boxes aren't premade any longer," said Vaughn. "So the residents are coming through with their bags, they're picking what they want"
Allowing residents to customize their own bag to take home.
Residents walked away with strawberries, tomatoes even corn, many of them, like Brett Robinson, grateful for their fresh produce.
"I got corn, strawberries, crackers, bread, cantaloupe, oh yeah, and tomatoes, good stuff," said Robinson.
A good day in the Fulton Square neighborhood, residents walked away with smiling faces.
"That's what we need, smiling faces, especially around here." said Robinson.
With over 50 residents taking part, they were able to feed more than 200 families in need.
