CONWAY, Ark. _ A superb pitching effort by sophomore transfer Dillan Janak earned the  University of Central Arkansas Bears a split of Saturday's doubleheader with the Abilene Christian Wildcats in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.

Janak (2-0), a lefthander from Sioux Falls, S.D., and Butler Community College, tossed 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven and walking none. He blanked the Wildcats (10-4, 2-1) for six innings before allowing three runs in the seventh and giving way to Tyler Navarro to finish off the inning. Redshirt freshman Tyler Cleveland of Sheridan came on and pitched the final two innings to earn his third save, striking out three and allowing just one hit.

The Bears, who lost Saturday's opener 5-4, staked Janak to a 3-0 lead after two innings. Beau Orlando had an RBI groundout in the first inning and Christian Brasher added a squeeze bunt and Nathaniel Sagdahl contributed an RBI double for a pair of runs in the second.

UCA (4-6, 1-2) made it 5-0 in the fourth when sophomore Kolby Johnson reached base on a fielder's choice and eventually came around to score on an ACU error. Junior Connor Emmet followed with an RBI base hit to right field to score Brasher. In the fifth, senior Alonso Bibiano's single up the middle scored junior Benny Ayala to make it 6-0.

The Wildcats got three runs off three hits in the seventh before Navarro and Cleveland shut the door. Emmet finished 2 for 5 with and RBI and a run scored as UCA made the most of its seven hits and eight walks.

In the opener, the Bears fell behind 5-1 after four innings before rallying for three runs in the sixth inning of the seven-inning matchup. UCA got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh when Emmet was hit by a pitch and Orlando walked but could not bring either of them in. In the three-run sixth inning, Bibiano had a two-run base hit and Johnson an RBI single up the middle.

Orlando had two of UCA's six hits and Bibiano had two RBI. UCA starter Ryan Johnston took the loss.

Game 4 of the series has been moved up to noon Sunday to avoid possible weather issues.
