According to Israel's National Cyber Directorate, Iran was behind last month's attack on Technion servers.
At the end of a joint investigation by the National Cyber Authority and the Technion, it was found that the cyberattack on the Technion about 3 weeks ago was carried out by an attack group known as MuddyWater, which is affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
The Technion had to disconnect its computer system servers due to the cyberattack, and some exams were postponed.
The group has been attributed to many attacks around the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Around a year ago, both countries released a joint statement blaming the group for attacks in Asia, Africa and North America.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the group used malware designed to encrypt operating systems. To prevent similar attacks, the cyber directorate distributed identifiers of the attack as well as recommendations for defense.
Meanwhile, the organization reminds that every year during Ramadan, which begins this month, cyberattackers target a variety of targets in Israel with the intention of disrupting their business operations and tarnishing their name. Every year, the cyber directorate is held during this period to encourage organizations to strengthen security.
