Lawrence N. Rosenblum, who has been a behind-the-scenes adviser to several Montgomery County political leaders over the past three decades — and remains campaign treasurer to former county executive Isiah Leggett (D) — is setting up a political consulting firm.
Rosenblum, a CPA, hopes to provide strategic and business advice for Democratic candidates in Montgomery County. He’s calling his consulting company Eleanor Consulting, LLC — a play on his initials (in his spare time, Rosenblum is a humor writer, author of a book called “Sure Dad, You Know Everything”).
In addition to being a longtime member of Leggett’s kitchen cabinet, Rosenblum is close to members of the Kramer political family, and is a good friend of Del. David Fraser-Hidalgo (D) — who happens to be a neighbor. In the 1990’s, he was president of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and then headed the chamber’s political action committee.
Rosenblum said he got the idea for doing political consulting work after talking to local politicians who suggested he earn some money for his wisdom and experience.
Up to now, he said, political activity has been “a passion of mine.” But Rosenblum is winding down his full-time accounting job and he’d like to segue into more political work.
“The beauty is, I can pick and choose” candidates, he said.
Rosenblum said he’ll offer a range of services like evaluating campaign budgets and communications strategy, helping with opposition research, or using his vast knowledge of Montgomery County to give office-seekers the lay of the land politically — or even prepare them for serving in the jobs they’re trying to win.
“I don’t want to push paper,” Rosenblum said. “I don’t want to be coming up with elaborate campaign budgets and things like that. But I’d like to be in some kind of advisory role that will be unscripted.”
And, Rosenblum said, he’ll continue to help his closest friends who are running for office — gratis.
