Feed my Sheep and Gulf Coast Community Ministries teamed up to feed those in need in the Gulfport community by hosting a drive-thru food giveaway.
A little rain didn’t stop hundreds of people from lining up at Milner Stadium in Gulfport to receive free food. Feed my Sheep has been serving those in need since 1984 and Gulf Coast Community Ministries hands out food in the community every week so the two decided to come together to help out. Feed my Sheep Chairman of the Board Ted Riemann said, “It’s been a blessing to me, but more so you know, it’s a blessing to the community and to the people that need help during these kinds of tough times that we are living in right now.”
The food giveaway had a variety of items and they made sure it was enough for each family. Riemann says they cleared out the freezer at Feed my Sheep to make sure no one was left out. “We have an ample amount of food to give away, I can assure you.”
Gulf Coast Community Ministries Executive Director Michael Wilson said, “We try to provide an assortment of goods. Everybody that comes through is getting a bag of dry goods, things like pasta and canned vegetables, canned fruit, things like that. We also have fresh produce that we are giving away, apples and oranges.”
Both organizations feel that by hosting this food drive it’s another way to help those in the community and also branch out and build relationships in the community. “It’s what we exist to do. Just help our community and meet immediate needs anyway that we can.”
Volunteers from different church groups and youth groups also helped lend a hand. Jeremiah Clouser, a volunteer with First Baptist Lyman, tells News 25 it is a blessing to be able to volunteer. “I just like being around other people, helping other people out. It’s just really fun.”
