With a record voter turnout expected this election year, Phil Rosenthal and the Rosenthal Family Foundation have launched Somebody Feed The People, a national campaign set on raising funds for organizations providing meals to voters waiting in long lines.
Ahead of the Somebody Feed Phil host returning to Netflix with a fourth season of his food and travel show (Oct. 30), he shares in a statement provided to The Hollywood Reporter the spark for his inclusive and non-partisan campaign.
"Food is not only a great unifier; it is also something many of us take for granted. We thought election season would be a perfect time to take hunger off the table at least for one meal while people are at the polls," Rosenthal says. "Our mission is pretty simple — we just want to Feed the People who have chosen to show up to the polls and are facing long lines."
The Rosenthal Family Foundation is matching contributions up to $250,000 for the campaign, which welcomes anyone to join who is "passionate about making sure The People are fed."
Organizations already receiving support via the campaign include Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen and Pizza to the Polls, and actions include mobilizing food trucks and on-demand food delivery in communities across the country.
