If stay-at-home orders are making your stir crazy, a company setting up shop in Sachse says it has a way you can let off some steam without spreading the coronavirus.

Extreme Sandbox calls itself a “heavy-equipment adventure company” that lets average Joes spend time taking a spin in bulldozers, excavators and other construction vehicles.

The Minnesota-based open-air entertainment concept has leased a site in Sachse’s The Station mixed-use project for its flagship Texas operation.

The company, which was featured on the Shark Tank television show, has been operating in a more remote location in Pottsboro near the Red River in Grayson County.

Extreme Sandbox has reached a lease agreement with the city of Sachse and developer PMB Capital Investments for a more than 10-acre site in The Station project on Bush Turnpike.

The 134-acre development also includes apartments, retail, single-family homes and a park.

Extreme Sandbox hopes to have its Sachse operation up and running this fall.

“After a successful appearance on Shark Tank in 2016, we are excited to call The Station our new Texas home,” Extreme Sandbox CEO and founder Randy Stenger said in a statement. “The city of Sachse is an incredible community and the perfect hub for new businesses to grow and thrive.

“We look forward to bringing this exciting outdoor activity to the district and expect to benefit from the strong corporate presence in Dallas and surrounding areas,” he said. “Where else can you play with a 26-ton excavator for fun?”

And what better way to practice social distancing than in the cab of a bulldozer?

Extreme Sandbox lets guests get behind the wheel of Komatsu heavy construction equipment under the supervision of trained operators. The cost of a one-hour ride starts at $195.

The entertainment firm serves both individuals and corporate clients that use the venue for team-building events.

The company opened its first location in Minnesota in 2012 and has operated on 15 acres in Pottsboro near the Tanglewood Resort since 2016.

“We are thrilled to welcome Extreme Sandbox to The Station as we conclude the district’s first stage of construction,” PMB Capital investments partner Taylor Baird said. “Designing a dynamic, family-focused, mixed-use community is at the heart of our vision for The Station, and Extreme Sandbox perfectly captures that spirit, bringing an innovative experiential element to the district.”

The Extreme Sandbox deal was completed just as apartment builder Davis Development is starting construction on The Station’s first apartment community, The Linz at The Station. Leasing of the rental community will start next summer.

Home builders Ashton Woods Homes and K. Hovnanian Homes are building 225 single-family homes in The Villas at The Station residential community.

The developer is also marketing restaurant, retail and office building sites in the project.

The $250 million Station project started construction last year surrounding Sachse’s Heritage Park.
