STAMFORD — Police found a loaded semiautomatic firearm stashed behind homes on Dale Street in the Cove neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Officer Daniel Kokkoros of the Narcotics and Organized Crime unit received information that the gun had been placed near 151 Dale St.
When officers arrived, they located a .22 caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic handgun hidden under leaves.

The gun was loaded with a magazine containing five rounds, but no bullet was in the chamber.
“It’s a loaded gun in an area where a number of children could come upon it,” said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin, who congratulated officers for taking the gun off the streets.
He reminded all Stamford residents to call police if they find a gun, and to not touch the firearm.
He said the gun recovered on Sunday is being processed for registration and fingerprints and DNA.
