The Latino Restaurant Association recently partnered with the Southern California Gas Co. and the Walmart Foundation to provide hot meals and care packages to health-care workers at three Inland Empire medical facilities.

Hundreds of health-care workers at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton received meals prepared by Latino-owned restaurants Placita and Miguel’s at a June 16 event, and about 1,000 health-care workers at Riverside Community Hospital received meals prepared by Latino-owned restaurant Miguel’s Jr. at a June 18 event.

Both events were funded by a grant from the Southern California Gas Co. to the Latino Restaurant Association’s Feed Frontliners Program, which provides support to health-care workers and restaurants affected by the coronavirus pandemic, according to news releases.

The Southern California Gas Co. also donated care packages for the health-care workers.

At a June 23 event, the Latino Restaurant Association teamed up with Walmart employees from San Bernardino and Highland to provide hot meals and care packages for health-care workers at the San Bernardino Medical Group facility.

This event was part of the Latino Restaurant Association’s extended Cinco de Impact campaign, according to a news release.

The Walmart Foundation has granted $50,000 to the Latino Restaurant Association to provide meals for health-care workers and support small Latino businesses. The grant is helping to purchase meals from Latino restaurants to feed more than 5,000 health-care workers throughout Southern California, according to the news release.

“Walmart’s generosity is helping feed thousands of frontline health care workers throughout the Southland while also helping small Latino restaurants stay afloat during this health crisis,” Lilly Rocha, Latino Restaurant Association representative, said in the news release.“We recognize that the COVID-19 crisis continues to be a threatening risk to our health, so we owe it to our health-care workers for their selflessness and perseverance during this difficult time.”
