Jennifer Edwards lives right across from the area where all the clean-up crews meet up every day. She's watched them work non-stop since the storms hit, so she wanted to give them a home-cooked meal as a thank you for their hard work.
"I see it daily, the trucks going back and forth, the workers here, daily. From 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at night,” Edwards told us.
Their diligent work caught her eye weeks ago, and she knew there had to be something she could do to help out.
"I wanted to feed the workers in the neighborhood, but of course with coronavirus, I did not know if they would come to an individual's home to eat,” she told us.
Edwards became friends with one of the supervisors and mentioned her idea. The woman says the crews would love a home-cooked meal, so Edwards started planning.
She originally intended to feed twenty to thirty people.
"She texted me on Thursday and said it's going to be about 80 or 90 people, so I was like whoa okay, we can make that happen!"
Edwards loves to cook and feels blessed to be in a position to give back.
"I myself as a young adult, when my children were first born have been in a situation where I didn't know where our next meal was coming from,” she told Channel 3.
Her story makes her good deed extra special for those who have been working so hard to keep their neighborhood clean.
"It's cooked with love, and it's cooked from the heart,” she said.
